Suki Waterhouse has revealed that she washes her hair in Coca-Cola to give it a natural beachy texture - but is there any method to this madness?
In an interview with
US Weekly, the model-turned-actress revealed that she relies on the drink to give her otherwise fine hair a boost.
"I don't like my hair when it's washed — it's fine and limp," she told the magazine. "But Coca-Cola makes it tousled, like I've gone through the Amazon or something," she continued.
While we've heard a lot of hair myths over the years, this was a new one on us - so we turned to multi award-winning hairdresser, Ken Picton, for his thoughts.
"The sugar in coke is probably what's giving that crispy type of 'tacky' effect that enhances the curl," says Ken. "However, I can't see any benefit of using something so full of sugar. Especially in the summer - think of the bees!
"It could also leave an odd smell, and if you wash with coke you're not removing all the oils and build-up and you’re not protecting the hair properly.
"It's better to use a good quality shampoo and conditioner and then a proper styling product to achieve this effect. There are some great products on the market including L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni.Art Beach Waves which would give a similar effect, or any of the sea salt sprays. My advice is to use something designed especially to give that lived in look to freshly washed hair."
