At the
Peter Pilotto Autumn/Winter 2014 show, strong hold hair gels were used by the bottle to lacquer models' hair down for a super-shiny helmet effect.
While clients might not want such an editorially-inspired look, there's no denying that slick styles are enjoying a resurgence - with gel top of the list for producing the look.
A world away from the gloopy gunk so beloved of teenage boys in the 90s, today's strong hold hair gels do the job without drying out the hair - and more importantly, they wash out easily.
Backstage at the show, hair was given the glossy look by layering on tube after tube of gel with a tinting brush and blow-drying in, but the finish doesn't have to be extreme to make an impact.
Try brushing on around the hairline only for a dual-texture look, or pair with a sleek bun or high ponytail for an even more wearable take on the trend.
