Hair styling can be something of a revolution: it can be changed quickly and dramatically and can revamp an outfit; give you a fresh new look or overhaul your image.
This spring, Jon Chapman, Advanced Artistic Director at Marylebone High Street, has identified four key styling trends that have found their way from the catwalk to the red carpet and onto the high street.
Here's Jon's advice for helping client to recreate the season's must-have hairstyles.
| The Bun With Shine
| |

Catwalk | Seen on the New York Fashion Week runways of RODARTE and Philip Lim, the bun with shine was a big hit on the red carpet this year with celebrities including Penelope Cruz and Eva Longoria adopting the look. Simple and elegant, the bun with shine is a versatile look that can be worn for any occasion.
How To
Roughly blow dry the hair smooth, using smoothing fluid to achieve a high gloss sheen. Working from a side parting and using a bristle brush sweep hair into a side ponytail. Feed ponytail through the centre of a doughnut, then wind hair round the doughnut and secure with grips. Apply shine spray with a make-up brush for a high gloss finish.

| Romantic Wave
| |

Catwalk | Another red carpet favourite this award's season, soft, undone waves have been a staple look for Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel and the Girls Aloud trio Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle this spring. On the catwalk, Gucci and Ralph Lauren complemented their collections with long loose waves.
How To
Working from a centre parting, blow dry hair using a round brush to build movement into the hair. Set hair in velcro rollers using the first to drag hair downwards from the parting and the second to roll hair forwards. Repeat on the other side, then wind three rollers onto the crown area. Dry with a diffuser and leave until rollers are completely cool before removing. Release the curls using fingers.

| Wet Look Texture
| |

Catwalk | Alexendar Wang and Christopher Kane were among the designers whose models took to the catwalk with 80s-inspired slick wet look hair. More often worn on short hair - think Victoria Beckham's slicked back look - the style is given an added twist by combining the sleek front with the length pulled back for a low maintenance summer hairstyle.
How To
Apply volumising tonic from roots to end, roughly dry off the hair straight back. Use a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute gel from the hairline to the ends for a wet look finish. Use fingers to create a high summer ruffled look.

| The French Pleat
| |

Catwalk | The age old style of choice for the older lady, the sophisticated French Pleat is making a glamorous comeback. It was worn on the MaxMara and YSL catwalks with height through the front and at the crown and finished with a comb accessory at the front to give the look a noughties twist. Chrsitina Applegate and Megan Fox have both adopted the trend for the red carpet.
How To
Apply volumising lotion to the hair and rough dry, then apply a smoothing products such as Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother to the lengths and Pure Abundance Hair Potion to the roots to make the hair easier to work with. Back comb hair with a tail comb. Next, use a bristle brush to smooth the hair to the centre back of the head and run a row of grips up just off-centre at the back of the hair. Fold the hair over and pin in place then finish with hairspray. |
