Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to spring clean your salon and get rid of anything that may no longer serve you or your clients. Here, Nilofer Aydinli, Managing Director at Enki Towels, shares how you can spring clean your salon and incorporate more sustainable practices...
Spring cleaning your salon can involve a variety of factors – from doing a deep clean of the space, disinfecting surfaces, decluttering, washing all laundry and organising retail displays. It’s a great time to audit your inventory, get rid of the products you no longer use or want to retail in the salon, and those that clients are not gravitating towards. It’s also a good opportunity to look at stocking new, exciting and fresh products that may be more enticing to your clients over the spring/summer season. Think about heat protectant and deeply moisturising products that are essential for clients over the warmer months.
If you were thinking about any other salon changes – such as stockist changes, changing the product/colour brand you work with, or the towel brand you use – spring is the perfect time to do this. Spring is considered a time of new beginnings and change, and it symbolises renewal, making it an ideal time to incorporate more sustainable practices into your business and evaluate your stockists to see if they still align with your salon brand and work well for your stylists and clients.

Opting for disposable towels over standard cotton towels can be advantageous for many reasons. If spring is the time you are looking for your salon to start building its sustainability/eco approach, disposable towels can help you on your journey. Disposable eco towels are also space-saving, aesthetically pleasing, and incredibly hygienic. They can also help you avoid taking time away from the salon floor to do laundry, saving money for the salon too.
You may also want to consider changing some of the small details in your salon – think updating interiors to add seasonal arrangements of flowers, floral or soft, comforting scents in candles and diffusers, and refreshing your refreshment menu. Spring is a great time to add some additional cooling refreshments or beverages with a seasonal twist, such as iced coffees and herbal teas.
Plus, think about your treatment menu. If you have changed colour brand, this can be a great way to entice clients to try a colour service and see the incredible results. Many clients look to go lighter and brighter over the warmer months, and naming and framing these colour services – adding in a hair treatment on top for added hydration and shine at a discounted price – can be a great way to attract new clients. Show clients you are ahead of seasonal haircare trends and take the opportunity to upsell following the appointment with your retail haircare offerings too.
Lastly, it’s a great time to look at fresh approaches to your marketing and ways to increase customer loyalty and engagement. Alongside seasonal menus and promotions, you may want to update any gift cards, loyalty cards and marketing materials you have available, and consider refreshing your website and social media pages to ensure they still align with your brand and include information on any salon updates and promotions.
