Secrets of hair photos' success
Akin Konizi and his team explain why this image, part of his British Hairdresser of the Year 2008 award winning collection, has been so successful.
What the hairdresser sees
Akin Konizi
"This is probably one of the most popular images I have ever created. It wasn't a look that I had planned and we shot it at the end of the day when one of my team suggested: "Why don't you mess it up?" I was reluctant to do this but it gave me this great look. I love the overall balance of the body shape and the mood it gave the whole collection. It is a structured geometric haircut but softened in the finish to create a modern, fashion look."
What the photographer sees
Jenny Hands,
"This image works because it evokes a mood and a lifestyle with the loose historical reference to 60s imagery. We created images that would showcase Akin's style with the direction of the model, make-up and styling. We shot it in black and white with the trademark quirky wide angle of the 60s iconic portraits."
What the PR sees
Katie Pearson, PR director, hob salons
"This image attracts attention through its beauty and the composition of the model. Soft, sexy and feminine, yet with a stunning simplicity that is accessible to most women. These qualities are the reason why this image has been so popular, both with the industry and consumer beauty press. Called in at least once a week, this image has featured about 60 times so far this year in several publications globally, graced the pages of key trade and consumer hair press and national titles such as The Times."
