Creating an award-winning image takes teamwork, with photographer, stylist and make-up artist all playing a part in ensuring hair looks at its best.
The above shot was part of Skyler McDonald's award-winning collection, which saw her win the title of HJ's 2010 London Hairdresser of the Year.
We speak to those involved in the shoot...
Photographer
"I had a great feeling about Skyler's collection right from the beginning. It had plenty of variety and yet kept a modern edge to it. The style of photography which we chose was quite simple and timeless which added to the feel of the collection. On the day of the shoot, it came together perfectly and from the first shot I felt we had something strong."
Make-Up
"The brief was modern, beautiful and timeless; it was about making the image iconic using the shape of the hair to make a graphic statement. As the hair for the shoot was so directional, I kept the make-up soft and beautiful to complement the texture of the hair and the mood of the shot."
Jose BassHairdresser
"To me a winning image is one that engages me - it makes me want to know more about it, which is what I set out to achieve here with this alluring picture. It is important that the model looks beautiful and that the hair has a genuine integrity, forcing one to wonder how it was created."
Journalist
"This is a striking yet simple image. A lot of time and effort has been put into the hair, yet it still maintains that effortlessly undone look with the loose tendrils at the nape of the neck. The whole shot is understated, sexy and arresting."
