Creating an award-winning images takes planning, creativity and, most of all, teamwork. This stunning shot won Mizani Afro Catwalk Award at the 2011 L'Oreal Colour Trophy and here we speak to the team responsible.

Hair
"The idea for this image was to enhance the natural features of our model. Her hair was perfectly suited to add soft colours while keeping it looking and feeling healthy which can be quite hard with dual-heritage hair. The styling was fashion-oriented and accentuated all the elements of the haircut and colour of the hair."
2011 Mizani Afro Catwalk Award Winner Joe Nions, Cutting Room Creative, Leeds

Make-up
"For this look, we worked with the colour tones of her hair and skin. I used warm rustic textures in cream and gold, creating a smouldering warm effect. I used a black kohl pencil in the inner eye and smudged on to the lashes for a smokey effect. We kept the model's beautiful eyes as the main focus so the rest of her features were muted in neutral colours and the skin was kept fresh with a soft dewy finish.

Photographer
"It was essential to ensure that we maintained the softness of the caramel tones in the model's hair and skin as well as highlighting her vibrant green eyes. We used a mix of daylight and Tungsten light - a continuous incandescent, crisp light that adds a sparkle to the finished look and enhances the sheen of the hair. As the model was kept isolated in her background, we also incorporated shadow for exra added depth and to maintain a relaxed, soft finish."
Dan Smith

Journalist
"This architectural crop retains a feminine edge with a heavy sweeping fringe and scattered layers. The earthy base colour is complemented by lighter under panels of honey and caramel, that show through as the hair moves. It's a new classic."
