Seaside special - hoop salon interior

Published 10th Oct 2007 by sophieh
When the shop next door to Hoop salon became available, owner Tim Thomas welcomed the opportunity to double in size. So he planned the refit with a simple agenda: it would work around clients and be completed within six weeks. Tim and his team created a mood folder full of design ideas for the new-look business and came up with a strong design concept - cool white walls, soft lighting and wooden flooringThey also installed eight plasma screens around the salon, which show fashion, hair and lifestyle programmes, to keep the clients entertained; and hung 8ft posters of some of the images that Tim had created over the past few years, to act as talking points. "Client comfort, along with creating a stylish, contemporary environment, was really important – and it’s exactly what we’ve achieved," said Tim.

Top Tips

  • Make sure you are completely happy with the salon design before you begin the re-fit
  • Get the staff involved in the design so that they feel involved
  • Be prepared to go over budget or budget very generously to begin with
  • Expect the unexpected and allow for every eventuality
  • Try to keep the salon open by enclosing small areas that are being refurbished while attending to clients in other areas. You do not want a client going to a rival salon because you are having a refurbishment and they are desperate for a cut/colour.
