Getting branding right creates a strong identity, and that means something that clients know they can trust and rely on. Think of some of the world's most iconic brands - Chanel, Nike, Starbucks, McDonald's - and the one thing they have in common is an instantly memorable logo, colour palette and tagline; in other words, a memorable brand identity. "Companies must then express that point with clarity, understand that their point is the true value, own that value position in the minds of the people – both consumers and employees – be true to that value position and stay consistent." Consistency is absolutely crucial, he adds. "This is because it must secure trust and loyalty, both from inside the organisation and outside among consumers. Clarity is the glue that holds the business together. That promise or concept at the root of the company – that is the brand." Finally, don't just give the impression of a brand, says BJ, actually be that brand. "It means being who you really are, not pretending to be something else that you think people want you to be."
