Awards season is firmly in full swing, with the 2011 Grammy Awards and BAFTAS both taking place over one stylish weekend. In Hollywood, the great and the good of the US music industry celebrated talent with the 53rd annual Grammy ceremony.

We asked Sarah Bowron of Aesthetics Hair & Beauty, Solihull to provide her opinions on the latest celebrity trends at the Grammys.

Red was the colour of choice for numerous stars, including bright sparks Rihanna and Hayley Williams of pop-punkers Paramore, who both opted for shocking shades. Sarah says:

"Rihanna's wearing a smoother look than usual, opting for a soft, slightly wavy bob, which looks stunning. Sporting the famous 'Rihanna Red' shade that will soon be on the colour chart, it's no wonder we find her on another hair hit list. Also showcasing trademark red locks, Hayley adds another splash of colour with her retro bob and statement fringe. With bright scarlet lips to match, there's no denying she's a trendsetter."

Nicole Kidman is married to a country star and Miley Cyrus is the daughter of another - but that's not the only thing they have in common. Both stars opted for long, wavy extensions at the Grammys, in similar shades of auburn. Sarah says:

"New mom Nicole looks radiant with a deep side parting and cascading titian waves that are beautifully reflected by her Jean Paul Gaultier dress. Her colour is natural, but bold, with deeper auburn tones at the roots, merging into copper and strawberry blonde towards the mid-lengths and ends. It is a very carefree look and Nicole does it well.

"To match her stunning Cavalli dress, Miley has gone for full on mane hair. To increase the length, extensions have been added and for the ultimate Bardot effect, sections of the hair have been pinned at the crown; perfect for the red carpet."

Both Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez rocked very long, very dark, very sultry curls, complete with centre parting. Sarah says:

"Kim Kardashian is never one to disappoint when it comes to sultry styles. With big waves and tousled curls, she's gone all out glamour with these soft, tumbling tresses! Selena's big waves and tousled curls are similar to Kim's but she has opted for a more understated take on the look with a fresher finish benefiting her age, leaving her looking every inch the teenage star."

Also opting for the long look, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Hudson both styled their hair with extensions for a dramatically long look. Sarah says:

"Jennifer has gone for all out glam with this look. With a big blow dry on long layers and the added volume and length of hair extensions, it's a soft sexy look that suits her perfectly. She looks every inch the A-list star. Meanwhile Jennifer Hudson is looking majorly svelte with her uber chic smooth, straight hair and centre parting. It's a confident look for a confident lady."

Two of music's most stylish stars stuck to their trademark looks for the award ceremony. Florence Welch continues to rock the bright red, blunt fringe, textured look, while Katy Perry still looks like a living doll with long black extensions. Sarah says:

"Florence Welch is rocking her queen of cool beach waves perfectly. Teamed with an eye-skimming smooth fringe and trademark red tone, Florence looks effortlessly cool. With her ebony waves and alabaster skin, Katy Perry looks like a modern day Snow White. The soft waves and centre parting paired with her jewel make up nicely reflects her crystal bodice and the overall effect is quite ethereal."

Eva Longoria kept things simple with a neat bun to complement her prim monochrome prom dress. Kelly Osbourne continues her transformation to Hollywood It girl with long, straight, platinum blonde locks. Sarah says:

"Eva has gone for a formal Black Swan-esque bun to complement her dress. Rightly she's chosen to sweep her hair away, so as to not jar with the collar detail on her dress but I prefer her with a little more softness. Kelly's gone for a completely different look to what we are used to, swapping her retro dos for a girly style. The soft layering and simple structure of the cut is very S/S 2011 and looks great on her. It makes for a nice change, showing her look can be beautifully versatile!"

The two main Glee girls both looked lovely, with Lea Michele opting for long dark curls and Dianna Agron trying something new with a funky rock chick quiff. Sarah says:

"This is a far cry from Dianna's usual laidback look. She's virtually unrecognisable in this gorgeous Vivienne Westwood dress and updo. Her edgy backcombed quiff and smoky eyes complement her dress perfectly. It's great to see her experimenting with such a cool, grown up style and she looks great because of it. Lea Michele looks fabulous here too. The soft waves teamed with a centre parting are hot for hair at the moment and she looks totally glamorous."

Keri Hilson rocked a bright blonde bob wig, with sweeping fringe and dark streaks, while Nicki Minaj rivalled Lady Gaga with a Bride of Frankenstein wig and leopard spots to boot.

"Keri's asymmetrical bob complements her facial features perfectl y. Not only does it frame her face, but the cut and colour are both bang on trend. With the addition of the 70s inspired side-sweeping flick, the style could have been taken straight off the Louis Vuitton catwalk. Keeping the look modern with a two-tone colour finishes the hair off magnificently.

"Taking inspiration from her outrageous Givenchy outfit, fashionista Nicki is a cross between a leopard cub and Cruella! Nicki never fails to disappoint when it comes to her hair and outfits; whether you love it or hate it, one thing's for sure it's certainly got us all talking!"
