Red carpet hair: the brits 2010
The Brit awards brought out an array of top pop stars who had made every effort to stand out from the crowd.
Hair styles ranged from the groomed and gorgeous to the outrageously avant garde and HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year Akin Konizi was on hand to style Pixie Lott's blonde mane for the event.
He tells us how he created her look and gives his expert opinion on some of the other hairstyles of the night.

PIXIE LOTT
As Pixie's regular stylist, I was delighted to style her hair for this year's Brits where she was nominated for three awards. To complement her demure lace and frills dress, we agreed on opting for an old-school glamour look.
I used a finger wave technique to give Pixie 40s inspired retro waves for a sophisticated grown-up feel that is a classic red carpet winner and she looked stunning on the night.
CAT DEELEY
Cat always plays it safe with tumbling honey blonde curls but she knows what works for her and this look really suits her personality.
Reflecting her LA lifestyle, Cat's perfectly tousled waves are the envy of most women and here it looks healthy and in tip top condition. The colour is nice although I think it's perhaps a tad too golden.
LEONA LEWIS
Leona really looks stunning here. She's obviously trying to go for an edgier look with the dress and both the 80's inspired hair and makeup reflect this too.
This one shouldered, structured dress definitely works with the hair up and although this Croydon Face Lift could look severe on most other people, Leona pulls it off as she has such a stunning face.
LILY ALLEN
I love Lily's style and the way she isn't afraid to experiment with different looks, but this rounded blow-dry isn't my favourite of all her hair styles.
The dress is gorgeous and with the high neck it would have worked better with a hair-up style.
LADY GAGA
What can I say? Lady Gaga is just the most unique, individual star out there right now and I absolutely love everything about her.
She is mad, completely out there and her style is totally avant-garde but it's just brilliant. She pulls it out every time and has this chameleon like ability which makes people listen and want to find out more about her, which would explain why she stormed the evening winning 3 Brits.
FLORENCE WELCH
Florence is a really stylish lady and looked fantastic on the night. The flame red colour works in perfect harmony with her porcelain skin and pale dress and again really makes her stand out from the crowd of female artists on the Brit music scene.
The strong fringe balanced with the softness of the layers throughout the rest of the hair suit her floaty, ethereal personality and was definitely one of the winners in the style stakes.
LA ROUX (ELLY JACKSON)
I like La Roux's individuality and daring attitude towards her hair but this look just doesn't work for me. The hair and makeup together are too strong and really doesn't make for a flattering look.
She's had this style for a while now, so I would really like to see her move on and do something different. The best thing about her hair is her colour though, which works well with her skin tone and eye colour.
ALICIA KEYS
I love the sexier side that Alicia is bringing to her style and the jacket is fabulous! The softer hair and makeup work well and she is another one that can carry off the scraped back style.
However I would potentially like to have seen her either wear all her hair back from her face or fully embrace her curls, rather than seeing this half up, half curls combination.
