The second Project: X mentoring day this year took place during
London Fashion Week, a great time for hairdressers to learn more about the craft of session styling.
The day began with a session from
Paul Jones, where he shared his own session experience and career history, before showcasing two of his expert styling techniques and tips for creating the perfect catwalk ponytail, a key trend for AW20.
In the afternoon,
Leigh Keates took over to share a different side of session styling and demonstrated two more styling techniques to the team from his catwalk looks, which were a textured chignon that was bound with fabric, then a dual-textured look with a contrasting wet front and a dry textured back.
For the team, the whole day was an insightful glimpse into the world of session styling, both on how to get involved in the first place and how to master techniques.
Alice Harvey, a team member said: “I’m taking away two main things from the day, one, to get a session kit prepared and, two, to create opportunities by putting myself out there, being available and leaving my ego behind.”
Pamela Conney, another team member said: “Paul showed us how to create a strong base with ponytails, which can then be turned into a variety of quick, fashion-forward up-dos. I’ll be doing them on all of my clients! I would say this is one of the most insightful days I’ve ever had in my career.”
