Jemma Stafford works at The Fantastic Hairdresser in Chiswick, London and in 2011 scooped the title of Junior of the Year at HJ's British Hairdressing Business Awards.
Jemma started her career at the same time as the salon opened, in May 2009. Since starting work at The Fantastic Hairdresser, she has completed her NVQ2 Training and has also completed in-house training at the salon.
After three short years, Jemma achieved the ultimate accolade for newcomers to the industry when she won the role of Junior of the Year - here she explains how she got her current job and what she hopes to achieve with her award.
How did you end up in your job?
I decided quite late on that I wanted to be a hairdresser, but when I did decide that it was the career I wanted to take, I knew that I wanted to work for a company I felt suited my style and my beliefs.
Having had several interviews, I quickly decided The Fantastic Hairdresser was everything I was looking for and I love the company and the team!
What tips would you give for anyone who wants your job?
Be dedicated, be patient, and above all, be passionate!
What are the best and worst parts of your job?
The best parts have to be the combination of creativity and making people feel good as well as look good - it is a massive buzz.
The worst part for me was that last few months of training - that's where you need to hold onto your passion and push through!
What do you like best about being involved in the hair industry?
What's not to love? It's the best industry in the world! We create beauty, we make people happy, we enjoy our work, and of course, we know how to party. Nothing else comes close!
