Blonding specialists everywhere could be in for an influx of blonde bookings following the debut of The Princess of Wales’ new Champagne blonde look.

Newly released photographs reveal Her Royal Highness, Kate Middleton, debuting a softer, lighter blonde shade, stepping away from her signature brunette look.

Harry Andreou of TONI&GUY Winchester comments, “Kate’s new blonde is gorgeous. The tones are beautiful, softening her features and giving her a fresh new look. More celebrities are going blonder this autumn, from Kate to Angelina Jolie - it reflects a wider trend of people seeking a lift and a touch of brightness as the seasons change.”

Carol Ritchie of Carol Ritchie Bespoke Hair, Portsmouth, adds, “We’re definitely seeing more celebrities choosing blonde for autumn. Rather than the deeper, richer tones you’d usually expect this time of year, they’re opting for golden, sun-kissed shades. It’s that ‘quiet luxury’ look - soft, natural blondes that feel effortless yet still look polished and expensive.”

For clients wanting to achieve a similar colour, Becky Sutherland, owner of Pink Lemonade Hair, Durham, explains: “For clients inspired by Kate Middleton's new look, consultation is key. It’s important to discuss tone in relation to skin tone, decide between techniques such as foil work, balayage, or a full head application, and clearly map out the maintenance journey, so clients understand both salon visits and at-home care requirements.”

Amid recent online speculation about the princess’ new look possibly being a wig, Remi Cachet founder and creative director Victoria Lynch emphasises the positive impact of hair enhancements. She explains, “As an industry, we should be celebrating the power of extensions and wigs to transform not only hair, but also how people feel about themselves. Whether it’s adding volume, restoring confidence, or helping someone feel like ‘themselves’ again – this is about empowerment, not shame.”

For stylists worried about lightening a client who has traditionally worn darker tones, Adele Clarke, OSMO Ambassador and salon owner, reassures: “This old-money, glossy Champagne blonde doesn’t need to be lifted too white, so we don’t have to push the condition too far.” Adele recommends working with OSMO IKON Blonde Elevation Bleach with Violet cooling agents and bond builder, lifting to a level 9 for the perfect Champagne finish.

Of course, with such a dramatic colour shift, upkeep and condition are essential. Maria Freitas, Andreia Professional Hair Ambassador, advises that for clients who may struggle with frequent salon visits, stylists should recommend at-home support: “Our Color Coat range helps preserve vibrancy, while in-salon services such as our Color Gloss Gel Clear restores shine and keeps hair looking healthy.”

Jonathan Andrew, Fudge Professional Global Brand Ambassador, also highlights the importance of toning maintenance: “A gentle purple shampoo prevents brassiness. I recommend Fudge Everyday Clean Blonde Damage Rewind, which balances blonde tones while strengthening hair. It delivers a soft, even blonde finish like the one Kate is wearing, without the intensity of our original Clean Blonde formula.”

With this regal makeover making headlines, blonding inspiration is set to surge, meaning salon chairs are likely to stay full as clients rush to recreate the Princess’ new look.
