Power ponytail - step-by-step

The power ponytail.

The ponytail is the key look for Spring/Summer 2012. Give the classic look a stunning twist as demonstrated by Zoe Taylor and Alexandra Byrne for ghd

Step One

Step One:  Apply root lift spray to wet hair and blow-dry smooth.

Step Two

Step Two: Use the ghd Gold Max styler to make the ends extra flat.

Step Three

Step Three: Create a straight centre parting by using a tailcomb and follow the line of the nose, checking in the mirror for absolute symmetry. Then section away the back from the crown to behind the ears.

Step Four

Step Four: Apply hairspray onto a dressing brush and pull the back section into a ponytail. Loop a length of elastic around the hair three times, binding from the hand towards the hair. This will tighten the pony ensuring a slick, secure finish. Thread the end through the loop three times and pull to secure.

Step Five

Step Five: Brush the front sections towards the back, below the high ponytail to make a second low pony.

Step Six

Step Six: Tip the head forward and secure the new lower pony with elastic. Take the shortest section of hair from the pony and wrap over the elastic to hide. Soak the hair with hairspray as it is wrapped for an ultra clean finish.

Step Seven

Step Seven: Release the top ponytail by pulling the end of the elastic.

Step Eight

Step Eight: Use the styler to remove any lines that may be in the hair. Dress with hairspray to control flyaways.
