Post-lockdown 2.0 update: all hair salons and barbershops in england can reopen Hair Salons and Barbershops in England can reopen across all 3 tiers at 00:01 on Wednesday 2 December once lockdown 2.0 ends, according to the COVID-19 Winter Plan that was outlined by prime minister Boris Johnson on Monday 23 November. This means hair salons and barbershops in England can fill appointments slots and start working from Wednesday 2 December onwards. The 3-tier system in place in England once Lockdown 2.0 ends will be tougher than the original 3-tier system, however a uniform approach will be taken across all local authorities. The toughened tiered restrictions will last until the end of March with an announcement on the rules for specific areas to be made later this week by the health secretary. Post Lockdown 2.0: Hair salons and barbershops in England can reopen on 2 December 2020

As part of the new 3-tier system that will be in place from when lockdown 2.0 ends at 00:01 on Wednesday 2 December, hair salons and barbershops will be allowed to reopen across all 3 tiers. The NHBF's chief executive Richard Lambert told HJ exclusively: “The NHBF welcomes today’s announcement that hair and beauty in England will not face any future closures, regardless of which tier they are in, and the confirmation that the same rules will apply in the same tiers throughout the country. However, our industry has been hit hard by the previous lockdowns and restrictions and so we are still pushing the government to make funds available to help salons fully recover – like those given to the hospitality and leisure sector.” UK prime minister Boris Johnson said in his speech to the House of Commons on Monday 23 November: “In Tier 1 people should work from home wherever possible. In Tier 2 alcohol may only be served in hospitality settings as part of a substantial meal. In Tier 3 indoor entertainment, including hotels and other accommodation and all forms of hospitality will have to close, except for delivery and takeaways. I’m very sorry for all of the unavoidable hardship this will cause for business owners who have already endured so much disruption this year. Unlike the previous arrangements the Tiers will be a uniformed set of rules. We’ve learned from experience there are some things we can do differently. The 10pm closing time for hospitality will change to being last orders at 10pm with closing at 11pm. In Tiers 1 and 2, sporting and business events will be allowed to resume inside and outside within capacity limits and with social distancing. This will provide more consistency for theatres and concert halls. Later this week we will announce which areas fall into which tier (hopefully on Thursday) based on analysis of cases within all age groups and especially the over 60s. We expect more regions will at least temporarily fall into the higher Tier levels than before, but by using tougher tiers and using rapid turnaround tests on a greater scale it should be possible for areas to move down the Tiering scale to lower levels of restrictions." He concluded: "Everyone can help speed up the process by continuing to follow the rules, getting tested and self-isolating when instructed, remembering hands, face and space, and pulling together for one final push to the Spring, when we have every reason to hope and believe that the achievements of our scientists will finally lift the shadow of the virus.”
