Pony Professionnel in Auckland, New Zealand is dedicated to the art of healthy hair but rather than taking a clinical approach to diagnosis and treatment, the salon is an elegant space that encourages relaxation and retail.
The brain child of Mana Dave and Kate Smith, who already own the award-winning
Blaze Hair, this hair spa combines the elegance of 1960s French salons with the friendly, rural elements of Japanese design. Patterned tiles and white walls represent the former, while exposed chopped chunks of wood are a nod to the latter.
Design of Pony Professional was oveseen by
Katie Lockhart, an interior designer whose other projects include Blaze, as well as Auckland's ultra-cool designer boutique,
The Department Store and work for fellow Kiwi,
Karen Walker.
As much space is given over to retail as to hairdressing, with a host of professional products available both from homegrown brands like Holistic Hair and Sans and international, problem-solving ranges including Davines and Kerastase.
