Hairdressing education brand Pivot Point has partnered with children's charity Little Lady Locks on a new initiative encouraging hairdressers to donate unwanted training mannequins to help children experiencing hair loss care for their wigs.
The collaboration aims to give used hairdressing mannequins a second life, reducing unnecessary waste while providing practical support to children receiving wigs from the charity.
How Can Hairdressers Get Involved?
The initiative calls on hairdressers, salons and educators using Pivot Point mannequins to donate any unwanted mannequin heads directly to Little Lady Locks.
Rather than being discarded when they are no longer needed for training, the mannequins will be repurposed as wig stands, helping children store and care for their wigs at home.
The donated mannequins will also be used by the charity's team of colourists, providing a practical way to hold wigs securely while they are being coloured.
Giving Hairdressing Mannequins a Second Life
Hairdressing mannequins are an essential educational tool, used by students and experienced professionals alike to practise cutting, colouring and styling techniques. However, even reusable mannequins eventually reach the end of their training life.
The collaboration offers a practical alternative to disposal, demonstrating how unwanted salon and education equipment can continue to serve a purpose.
Jan Laan, Vice President International Business Development for Pivot Point, explains: "We see lots of creativity from hairdressers, upcycling the mannequins when they have come to the end of their usable life. From plant pots, educational tools mapping out section lines, to lollypop dispensers. These are great and we are committed to reducing the impact we have on the environment. The idea of using the mannequins to hold and store wigs is so simple, and we are happy to be collaborating with such an amazing charity on this."
Supporting Children Experiencing Hair Loss
For Little Lady Locks, the donations will provide valuable practical support both for the charity's team and for the children receiving wigs.
Ashley Higgins, Founder of Little Lady Locks, explains that support from the professional hair industry plays an important role in the charity's work, particularly as it expands its team of colourists.
Hairdresser and mannequin donor Kerry Galliano has also welcomed the initiative, highlighting the difference that a wig can make to a child's confidence and sense of identity.
"It was an absolute yes to get involved with the Pivot Point UK and Little Lady Locks collaboration. To make a difference for children who need our support, to help build their confidence and identity at a very emotional time, and to know how much it means to them. It makes so much sense to me to use unwanted mannequins that are smaller & similar size of a child’s head shape for the children to hold and keep their much-loved wigs cared for."
The collaboration demonstrates how hairdressers can make a meaningful contribution beyond the salon chair, turning equipment they no longer need into something valuable for children experiencing hair loss.
