Pink hair has been making a colourful statement for a few seasons now - and if the
Spring/Summer 2014 runways are anything to go by, things aren't going to change any time soon.
In New York we saw
candy-cane striped hair at Ohne Titel, while in London it was all about the mermaid dip-dye at
Felder Felder and neon-licked quiffs at
Fyodor Golan.
Big product breakthroughs are on the horizon to help colourists and their clients make quick, easy and temporary transformations -
L'Oreal Professionnel Hair Chalk, label.m Powder Pink Spray and Bumble and bumble Spraychalks all look set to transform the way we think about colour in the coming months.
And it's not just on the catwalks - celebrities can't get enough of the look either, like
Twilight actress Valorie Curry. We asked Kelly McDonald of Star Salon in Liverpool for her verdict...
"Pink hair is a versatile colour and with such a wide range of hues, it’s no wonder it’s such a cool and popular option for all ages. This trend is definitely going to add a sense of fun and youthfulness to any hairstyle.
"I think we are seeing a lot more women taking risks and wanting a more unnatural hair colour at the moment, but working with your client to create the perfect pink hue is essential. Apply it to the ends of a cool ponytail or under the fringe in a peekaboo panel to create a point of interest. Or, if your clients are really brave, go for a full head of candy-floss pink, like pop princess Amelia Lily or even TV veteran Joan Rivers, who has also been spotted with a touch of pink in her hair. Here, Twilight actress Valorie Curry works the pink ombré look on a short pixie crop, perfectly showing just how versatile and funky pink can be.
"Pastels are all over the high street with fashion so it was inevitable that the pastel trend was going to follow through to hair. Pink is here for the long run – it’s as if it’s the new blonde. Whichever pink shade you decide on, you’re sure to have fun with it!"
