The Matrix Access All Areas Tour reached Manchester on 15 April with an audience of more than 200 hairdressers treated to a masterclass in commercial hair cutting, colouring and styling by Matrix ambassadors Paul Falltrick and Sharon Peake.
The pair created an array of looks influenced by different music genres, including pop, hip hop and punk, demonstrating how more extreme styles could be toned down and made salon-friendly.
Sharon opened the Punk section with her take on the modern mullet, using a ponytail cutting technique to showcase the ease of this dynamic look. Paul demonstrated technical excellence with his deep point cutting, creating rebel movement and a subtle punk-feel on statement coloured long hair.
The R’n’B section saw Sharon take the audience on a hip hop trip down memory lane, with her own freestyle cutting techniques bringing a unique home-style flourish to a classic bob perimeter. Meanwhile, Paul drew upon a style collision of hair masters Leonard and Sassoon to give his multi-layered bob a serious dose of street style.
Micro crimping, texture and architectural structure brought an additional dimension the show model looks, re-worked inbetween sections to show the versatility of Design Pulse styling products. Then it was all about the boys as Indie rock was brought to life on stage with two male models.
The grand pop finale showcased the shortest looks of the evening, with Paul demonstrating how shape and form can take centre stage to highlight facial features as Sharon worked layers of ultra-femininity into a vivid copper crop with sweetheart fringe.
The talented twosome ensure they presented a relaxed and interactive show, with audience members invited to ask questions.
One concerned members of the audience asked Sharon if the mullet was ever likely to come back, to which Sharon replied that elements of the old mullet would come back, but that it wasn’t about to make a return in all its original “glory”.
The event offered a genuinely up-close-and-personal exchange with two of hairdressing’s most personable and talented ambassadors.
