The Swedish professional haircare brand, Maria Nila, proudly announces becoming B Corp certified.

Marcus Wikström, CEO and Chairman says: “We are proud to announce this significant milestone that is proof of all the hard work our organisation puts into our journey towards leading sustainable beauty. Our initiatives for wildlife, nature, and humanity have always been a part of the brand identity and becoming a B Corp certified company has been our vision for many years.”

By partnering with Plan Vivo, Maria Nila offsets its annual CO2 emissions and has contributed to planting over 280,000m² of forest in Nicaragua since 2016. Their wildlife charity program, run in collaboration with The Perfect World Foundation, raises awareness and funds for endangered species, contributing over £490,000 to conservation efforts for animals and sea turtles, rhinos, and whales. Additionally, Maria Nila supports local communities near its offices in New York, Stockholm, and Helsingborg, donating hygiene products values at over £1,340,000 in 2023 through partnerships with organisations like Amenity Aid and Giving the Basics.

With a vision to lead sustainable beauty through innovation for nature, wildlife, and humanity, Maria Nila has been certified with a score of 114.3 out of 200. Maria Nila has conducted a comprehensive 360 review of the company’s sustainability efforts, and with the support of the B Corp framework, the organisation has been able to structure and implement improvement measures aimed at enhancing social and ecological sustainability. This has also enabled Maria Nila to measure and compare data and activities in a better and more transparent way.

“Combined with environmentally innovative production processes focusing on reduced resource consumption and expanded charitable initiatives, we have improved our social and ecological performance,” says Tina Malmborg, Sustainability Manager. “The score itself indicates that we have made significant progress but also that there is more work to be done. With a continued focus on ongoing improvements, we will take further actions and carry out activities that contribute to a friendlier future for nature, wildlife, and humanity.”
