Man dubbed rapunzel follows the newest men's hair trend A man dubbed Rapunzel proves that gender lines in the hair and fashion industry are blurring, as he continues to grow his two feet long hair for seven years. Non-binary gender identities have become a significant part of the mainstream conversation recently. Since the rise of men make-up artists on YouTube, trans models and the transitioning of public figures such as Caitlyn Jenner, transgender issues have been getting the spotlight they deserve. Society’s perception of gender, sexuality and society norms have been shifting to a place of inclusivity and open-mindedness. From menswear shows all about feminisation to London Fashion Week Men’s AW19 long hair trends, gender-neutral style is now becoming somewhat of a normality in the industry.

But what role does the men’s hairdressing industry really play in raising awareness around gender fluidity?

London Fashion Week Men’s AW19 showed the upcoming autumn and winter hair trends and fabulous long men’s hairstyles reigned supreme. Brands such as Christopher Raeburn and Iceberg accessorised long, straight hair extensions with branded headbands and colourful ribbons made from shredded waste cuffs. A keen follower of the movement is Brazilian actor Cristiano Braga. A 28-year-old man, who has grown a two feet long hair, has been dubbed Rapunzel by various news outlets. It may be something spiritual or cultural.” He believes his impressive mane protects him from the world and he feels much stronger and confident with it. He maintains his hair with the help of natural products such as aloe vera, avocados, chamomile, mint, rosemary and various vegetables, as well as a delicate wash with he says taken only “five minutes”. He continues: “Prejudice is something very present in our society and must be fought.”
