Mahogany introduce ed-torians

Mahogany introduce ed-torians The Mahogany Creative Team treated the audience to a masterclass in how to marry soft seamless colour with short dramatic cuts for a feminine vibe with an edge in their Salon Seminar at Salon International. With up-tempo creative presentations alongside live cutting and colouring displays and in-depth technical education, it was the perfect way to introduce their new spring/summer 2019 collection Ed-torians. Ed-Torians was inspired by a fascinating fusion of 50s Teddy Girls, as captured by film-maker Ken Russell, and the work of Turkish designer Bora Aksu and his references to the Victorian ladies of the night. Cuts showcased Mahogany’s signature head-hugging shapes with a focus on disconnected lengths that were softened with natural texture. Fringes were worn short and sassy, while the internal panel was removed from the longest look to avoid it becoming a bob. Each look was complemented with its own colour palette of similar tones or depths of tone that were seamlessly blended to create a shadow-like effect. "In the past we’ve done lots with panels and sections of colour, but this year we wanted to do something that was seamless," explained UK Creative Director Anthony Licata. "The only rule with the colour palette is that it’s not too garish. It looks really fresh." Head of colour Tara added: "We used warm tones with warm colours and cool tones with cool colours. Even if the colours are different the shadows that it creates will still be the same." Those colour blends ranged from a soft mink that merged from bellini to rose; opal blended with soft lavender and vintage lavender; and a spectrum of blues from powder blue to navy. Meanwhile more natural palettes of slate grey and sliver, and blacks with hints of deep reds beautifully complemented some of the more texturised looks, including a Teddy Boy-esque cut with a rock and roll vibe. “Everything on stage is couture and we want to take it as far as we can go, but there is always a commercial version that can be diluted and used in your salon,” Anthony concluded.
