Madonna's iconic Blonde Ambition ponytail has sold for $20,000 (£12,000) at an auction of memorabilia.
The platinum plaited look, created by tour stylist Sharon Gault, was sold alongside
that Jean Paul Gaultier conical bra and other costume pieces from the groundbreaking 1990 tour. It was initially predicted to sell for £3,000, but reached more than quadruple that price at the Profiles in History auction in California.
Sharon created four versions of the I Dream of Jeannie-style
braided ponytail, which has become of Madonna's best-loved looks.
However the ponytail was actually dropped halfway through the tour, from the plaited style to tight barrel curls. This change wasn't just down to a fashion whim - the ponytail not only kept getting caught in her headset mic, but was also putting strain on Madonna's hair.
