Hair has always been a hugely important fashion statement and stands equally alongside fashion design in creating a look. L’Oréal Professionnel is thrilled to have this unique opportunity to develop the creativity of young talent from the hairdressing industry working alongside emerging fashion designers, and to work in partnership with such a dynamic event as Graduate Fashion Week.
The L’Oréal Professionnel Portfolio hair team of 25 young hairstylists worked backstage to create the catwalk hair looks for the 24 college shows, showcasing the work of over 1000 designers, and the Gala Awards Show. The event attracts over 30,000 guests and features exhibitions from over 40 universities. The 2018 hair team was directed by Andrea Daley at Barbara Daley Liverpool and Jason Hall at Jason Hall Edinburgh. They are regulars backstage at London Fashion Week and have extensive session and photo-shoot experience. This enables the students to receive the support and advice of world-class hair stylists to achieve the professional image on the Graduate Fashion Week catwalk that is normally associated with some of the world’s leading fashion shows.
Graduate Fashion Week has helped launch the careers of some of the most successful designers such as Christopher Bailey winner of the first ever Graduate Fashion Week Gold Award, Stella McCartney, Antonio Berardi, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and many more.
“This ongoing partnership merges the very latest in fashion talent with the creativity of young hairdressers. L’Oréal Professionnel is proud to be the official hair sponsors of GFW for well over a decade, nurturing the future of our industries,” said Monica Teodoro, general manager L’Oréal Professionnel.
The four-day event finished with the Gala Awards Show attended by judges and celebrity presenters including Julien Macdonald, Hilary Alexander OBE, Richard Quinn and Jeff Banks CBE.
Key award winners were as follows:
Debenhams Menswear Award – Hannah Gibbins, University of Brighton
M&S Womenswear Award – Aurelie Fontan, Edinburgh College of Art
Christopher Bailey Gold Award – Rebecca Wilson, Arts University Bournemouth
