The winners of
L'Oréal Colour Trophy 2013 recreated their award-winning images in an exclusive shoot with fashion photographer, Gustavo Papaleo and makeup artist Lan Nguyen - here are the results.
2013 L'Oréal Colour Trophy
Hair: Brooks + Brooks, London
They say... "The mid dye is a fresh take on the popular dip dye. It’s soft, elegant and is the new sophisticated 2013 look to take our clients forward for the season. It can be created on any base and the look can be anything from dramatic to soft and wearable. In ombre or dip-dye the colour gently bleeds into a lighter tone; in the mid dye we use this same bleeding technique in reverse on the bottom of the hair allowing the colour to become darker on the tips.”
Key product: L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Cristal Gloass - "Perfect for light weight hold and shine that really highlighted the colour placement."
2013 Mizani Afro Look Award
Hair: Toni & Guy, Chiswick
They say... "The effect that I wanted to achieve for my look is a modern one-sided shaved effect achieved only by using a colouring technique. I took my inspiration from Rihanna and Cassie and used reversible dip-dye colouring; lighter on the roots getting darker towards the perimeter. I wanted to create a beautiful, modern Greek goddess look and feel, styled to the one side and with soft waves."
Key products: "From the Mizani product range I selected Supreme Oil Shampoo, Supreme Oil Mask, Therma Strength Heat Protection Serum, Therma Smooth Shine (anti-humidity spray). For the finish I used In Control Workable Hold Spray."
2013 L'Oréal Professionnel Men's Image Award
Hair: Saks, Doncaster
They say... "I used a scissor-over-comb technique on the perimeter and back section and worked with a disconnected top section where I incorporated back-cutting to create texture and width. I wanted to keep a military feel by keeping the cut tight in the neck and side area. To maintain a masculine finish we ensured a sheen finish not gloss, so we used L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Volume Mousse and Fix Move Gel. After styling a strong side parting I blow-dried it in place with finger drying back to give it a 1930s feel. I then applied the gel and dried it in slightly as we wanted it to feel clean sheen and sleek.”
Key colours: “We used very natural multi-tones of brown and gloss to give it a shiny groomed look. We wanted a seamless, natural feel so the hair did not look coloured - just so it looked like natural colour reflections in the hair."
