London Fire Brigade warns salons and consumers about the importance of including fire safety in home and businesses - after fires caused by hairdryers and straighteners.
Firefighters in London attend at least one 'beauty blaze' every fortnight in the capital.
"Many of today's straighteners can reach temperatures of more than 200 degrees celsius, which is hotter than the oil in a deep fat fryer, so it's vital that people take care," states Tom Geoge, acting head of community safety at London Fire Brigade.
Salons should ensure heated appliances are turned off properly and placed on a heat protection mat and not left near towels and gowns.
