KMS California created textured updos for the Bora Aksu Spring/Summer 2013 show at London Fashion Week.
Show: Bora Aksu
Stylist: Chrysostomos Chamalidis for KMS California with Darren Webster from Webster Whiteman, London, KMS international artistic director Clive Allwright, Sam Bright from Woo Hair Salon, Southend and the KMS Education team.
Inspiration: Queen Mary of Romania; Queen Victoria's granddaughter who married Ferdinand of Romania and whose look combined the wild romance of gypsy culture with a Victorian sensibility.
The look: Four textured fishtail plaits and a crown section full of texture.
Get the look: Hair was prepped and roughly blow-dried, before being tonged in tiny sections and clipped in place to cool. Only the root section was curled, with lengths left straight.
For added texture, some panels were backcombed and misted with hairspray before being tonged.
Once the whole head had been prepped, curls were brushed out to create a wave throughout the hair.
Four fishtail plaits were then created; two at the back and two at the front, pulling away from the face. The plaits were only secured at the very ends, to help them fall downwards rather than sticking out. Plaits were kept deliberately imperfect.
The top section was left loose and brushed out to create texture and volume, before a crown headpiece was placed on top.
