London fashion week autumn/winter 2012: mark fast

Show: Mark Fast

Stylist: Nick Irwin for Catwalk by TIGI

Inspiration: Early 90s grunge - Kate Moss in her Johnny Depp-dating era, David Simms photography and Kristen McMenamy

The look: Hair was plaited all over in random sections, then pulled apart loosely for texture. On some models hair was pinned up at random over the head and on others plaits were left down.

Get the look: Hair was plaited all over in sections of completely random sizes - some thick and chunky, some tight and small. Before plaiting, each section was misted with hairspray to add grip, while models with really squeaky clean hair also styling cream worked through first to add guts.

Once finished, plaits were pulled apart slightly and rubbed between the hands to achieve a dishevelled finish.

Some girls had the plaits pinned up on the head, while others wore them down but baby hairs and flyaways were encouraged on all of them, reflecting the collection which was sophisticated but featured frayed details around he edges.

Key products: Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hairspray and Session Series Styling Cream.

The gossip: Biggest aww-moment of the week when Nick's young daughter was brought backstage - with a matching plait in her hair.
