Salon owners and their team members need to be aware that as of Wednesday 30 April the old £50 note featuring a portrait of Sir John Houblon will no longer be legal tender.
The Bank of England estimates there are still 53 million of the notes in circulation, but salons will not be obliged to accept them as payment. Salons needing to exchange old notes can still deposit them with certain banks – up to a value of £200 – until 30 October.
The £50 bank note featuring Matthew Boulton and James Watt is still legal tender.
