Ever since Lady Gaga graced the stage with a bow updo
back in the early days of her career, we've had a soft space for this look - and now it's been reinterpreted by Kerry Washington.
The actress stepped out at the Baby2Baby fundraising gala in Los Angeles with a low-slung take on the bow barnet. Way more subtle than a Gaga-style bow positioned on top of the head, this is the mullet of the updo world - all business from the front and party in the back.
We asked Anya Dellicompagni, director of hairdressing at the Francesco Group, how to get this look for your clients.
1. To achieve Kerry Washington’s look, start by pulling the hair into a low ponytail and split into two sections.
2. Lightly backcomb each section to give the hair stability and hold.
3. To create the bow, fold one side of the hair into the middle and grip into place - leave the length loose, as you’ll need this to create the middle section.
4. Repeat on the opposite side.
5. Finish the bow by taking the loose hair and wrapping the loose lengths around the middle until there is no length left and grip into place.
