January jones does double braids for mad men season seven premiere

Will Betty Draper be embracing hippy braids in season seven of Mad Men? It is set in the 1970s, but somehow we doubt that Betty will be ditching the hairspray any time soon. Luckily, actress January Jones has a fare more relaxed approach to hairstyling, as demonstrated by this plaited style on the red carpet of the new season premiere. Hair is styled in two braids along either side of the head, before being brought together in one chunky knotted plait slung over one shoulder. I see definite shades of the Autumn/Winter 2014 Temperley show hair in this style, but the plait also has a hint of the Giles Spring/Summer 2014 tribal knotted style. It's hard to comprehend how these today we see this style as the perfect contradiction to a dressy red carpet look, whereas for the real-life Bettys in the 1970s it would only be good enough for the garden - if that!
