Katie Allan works as a senior stylist at The House of Charles Worthington. She is a member of the L'Oréal Professionnel Colour ID team and teaches her own colour courses for L'Oréal Professionnel. When did you decide you wanted to be a hairdresser? Since forever! I started to pester the local salon for a job from the age of 14 - and they eventually gave in when I turned 15. Where did you train? I trained with at Vidal Sasson when I was 16. It was amazing training and an intense seven months. What was your first job like? My first job was in a local village salon, where I learnt the essentials and the basics which have stayed with me. I can still make a cracking cuppa! When did you move to Charles Worthington and what attracted you to the salon? I joined the company five years ago. I was attracted to Charles Worthington for the prestigious name, which was something I really wanted to be part of. What does your role as a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour ID artist and member of the EDIT Team consist of? As a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour ID artist, we are taught the forthcoming seasons trends direct from top hairdressers in the industry. We then present a catwalk showcase across the country to help educate others. The inside knowledge which I've gained on the programme helps me to then fill my EDIT course with on trend techniques and ideas. What’s been your career highlight so far? It would definitely have to be being part of the ID artist team and teaching my own course with L'Oréal Professionnel. What’s your next career goal? I want to start focusing on entering more competitions, like the L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy. What piece of advice would you give your student self? Success isn't something you stumble across. It comes from hard work, not comparing yourself to colleagues. And don't be afraid of making mistakes; lots of them! Looking for your next career move?
