Backwash bliss with the headbed

For many clients, a trip to the backwash is the highlight of their salon visit - but no amount of head massage or luxury treatments can make up for a stiff neck or back pain caused by an uncomfortable stretch to the sink.
It's common sense to try out your backwash chairs before you buy them, but when it comes to spending a serious amount of time in the seat attempting to relax, do you really know how your chairs feel?
The HeadBed is a head and neck cushion which fixes on the sink, and aims to make client discomfort a thing of the past.
Catherine Randabel, creator of the HeadBed, is a natural health practitioner who discovered that 'beauty parlour syndrome' was a real thing, as an increasing number of her clients complained of neck, head and shoulder pain - and in some cases, injury - caused at the salon.
"When the neck hyper-extends backwards over the sink – which it often does, even when using a foam comfort cushion - it can put strain and pressure on the delicate blood vessels, nerves and muscles in the neck," she explains.
The HeadBed aims to cut out this discomfort by providing plenty of support to relieve pressure on the neck by supporting a client's head at its heaviest point; the occipital bone.
Made from high-grade rubber, it is hygienic, soft and durable for thousands of washes - but, more importantly, incredibly comfortable for the client.
HeadBed Case Study
The salon: Wonderland
The salon owner: Sophie Laidlaw
She says: "I'm really excited to have HeadBed in the salon. Our clients' comfort and safety is of upmost importance to us, especially during the washing stage as this tends to be the time where a client should really relax. The best thing is that the water doesn't drip down the neck and it offers real support in just the right place, whilst it's still easy to wash the hair. There's no compromise with HeadBed. We love it and want to encourage other UK salons to take it on board and revolutionise their customer experience."
The salon: Hairhouse Warehouse
The salon manager: Erika Sepulveda
She says: "We were the first company in the globe to make it compulsory to have a HeadBed on every wash basin throughout our salons – consistency, world class service and client satisfaction is our utmost priority."
