Hair Contour by face shape

 

Square face shape

To elongate a square face, add volume at the roots and top of the head. To soften the jaw line, add extra volume to the sides of the face. How To: Section away the top layer of your hair, so as to hide the crimp later. Starting at the top, crimp the hair once at the root, then all the way around the head. Repeat this step on layers below until you reach just below the ears, then let down the top section to hide the crimped roots. Bring the front layers/fringe forward and around the jaw line to soften features.

Round face shape

To elongate a round face, add contour at your roots using the hidden volume technique to give lift. How To: Section away the top section of your hair, so as to hide the crimp later. Starting at the top, crimp the hair from root to temples all the way around the head. Repeat this step on layers below until you reach just above the eyes, then let down the top section to hide the crimped roots. Bring the front layers/ fringe forward to help narrow the face.

Oval face shape

Keep the top of the hair flatter and add width using the freestyle feathering technique or a small veil will give an optical illusion of hair lightening to soften the look. How To: Section the hair just below the crown of the head from side to side. Then, take a fine section and place contour at the roots, crimping once at the root, then all the way around the head. Repeat this step in the below layers until you reach the bottom of the neck.

Heart face shape

Use contour around the recession line using the freestyle feathering technique to balance out the face shape and to soften the jaw line. How To: Section the hair mid-way down the head from ear to ear. Then, take a fine section and place ghd contour at the roots, crimping once at the root, then all the way around the head. Repeat this step on layers below until you reach the neck.
