Rino Riccio, men’s hair specialist inspires ClubStar Art Team
Rino Riccio, men’s hair specialist and head of education at Manifesto treated the Clubstar Art Team to both a cutting tutorial and insights into techniques and his success, inviting the team to ask questions throughout the session.
Rino shared his collection and how to create character hairstyles, depending on their suitability for the model The trend emphasises creating a character, rather than just making an attractive hair style.
Rino began by telling the team a little bit about his career. Originally from Italy, he moved to London seven years ago and started hairdressing when he was just 12 years old, coming from a family of hairdressers. “I couldn’t see myself in the salon full-time, my inspiration was to compete and educate,” he said.
PROJECT: X with Dove Palmer and the team from Palmer & Co International
Palmer & Co International is a group of like-minded hair educators who have gained years of experience working with the best throughout the world. Their education concept called the Method blends together the discipline of precision cutting with natural ergonomic form. Their education focuses on finding their students’ strengths and weaknesses so they can guide them in the right direction to achieve their full potential.
The PROJECT: X team started the session with a webinar where Dove and Tamas went through the techniques, tips and inspiration. In the afternoon the team demonstrated their cutting methods.
Creative director Dove Palmer started Palmer & Co in 2019 with his team, Great Maroino and Tamas Megyeri, who are directors of education. “This concept does not want to change the way you work with hair, but to give you the understanding to develop yourself when we are not with you,” said Dove. Tamas added: “My goal is to blend all the different aspects of cutting hair to create the ultimate method”.
Rino Riccio hosts men’s hair workshop
Rino Riccio hosted an online men’s hair workshop with mentors Robert Masciave and Desmond Murray creating two very different looks for the Fellowship for British Hairdressing session.
Desmond was first up, with a graphic cut on textured hair. Showcasing how to use clippers creatively ‘like a paint brush’ he offered insightful tips on visually refining the style shape. “Once you know the rules you can break the rules,” he explained.
Current Fellowship Men’s Image of the Year winner, Robert then took the floor. He said: “My philosophy is that hair cutting techniques have no gender, so it’s essential to learn all techniques to become trend proof and tackle any type of hair.”
Creating a fluid, soft, layered look with an early 70s vibe Robert explained his approach to cutting, starting with the Artisan Creative Mind which he compared to building a house. “First build strong foundations, then follow with the architecture and interior design,” he advised members.
He created the look using his eBlade scissors. Demonstrating how to hold them to create different effects, Robert explained how these specially developed scissors help give hairdressers creative freedom.
Rino wrapped up the workshop by thanking the mentors for generously giving their time. He said: ‘The Fellowship is like a family. Coming to Britain I’ve never seen a community like this anywhere else. It’s something very special and cool, keeping people inspired when they are struggling to be inspired.”
Desmond agreed saying he was honoured to be asked to take part in the workshop. He said: “If there is something we have learnt through lockdown as hairdressers it is that it is great to share.”
