Team HJi brought you every moment of HJ's 2010 British Hairdessing Awards as it happened. Here are the highlights of a memorable evening:
12:53 HJi: HJ's British Hairdressing Awards, the most prestigious event in the hairdressing calendar, take place tonight.
2:21 HJi_Rachael: The scene so far...
5:47 HJi_Rachael: All dressed up and coiffed, now we just need some guests! #bha
5.58 HJi: Team HJ/HJi ready and raring to go!!
6:42 HJi: Things are really hotting up in the Ballroom at the drinks reception and everyone is glammed up to the nines!
7:00 HJi: The dinner announcement has been called and guests are slowly but surely flocking in. There are a lot of nervous faces...
7:05 HJi: There is much excitement because the This Morning camera crews are here with their two resident hairdressers Leo Bancroft and Jamie Stevens
7:20 HJi: Most of the guests are seated and ready to go
7:33 HJi: And we're off with a montage of the finalists' photos. They look amazing
7:40 HJi: The finalists are welcomed onto the stage with a warm round of applause. It felt like they were kept coming out for ages - there are a lot of talented people in the room!
7:41 HJi: Next Jayne Lewis-Orr welcomed Darren Ambrose into the Hall of Fame, He is naturally very proud!
7:42 HJi_Rachael: ... And Akin is up now for winning British twice
7:42 HJi: As Akin receives his replica trophy he tells the audience "I don't want to say too much because I'm hoping to come back later!"
7:45 HJi: "Tonight is all about our finalists in each of the 16 categories and I wish them all luck," says Jayne who is all dressed in black couture, perfectly accessorised with diamonds and a fab updo.
7:46 HJi: Guests tuck into our three course meal
9:21 HJi: Guests enjoyed a cheese tartlet, followed by beef (or mushroom lasagne for veggies), followed by chocolate pudding. And, judging by the sound in the room, it was washed down with plenty of wine!
9:34 HJi_Rachael: And the presenter is... Jonathan Ross!
9:36 HJi: "It's great to be back," says the host Jonathan Ross. "This is the liveliest gig in town and you're all so good looking." He adds that "I'm not the only eye candy here tonight. We've got Olly Murs backstage."
9:43 HJi: "British hairdressing is the best hairdressing in the world," according to Jonathan - it gets the biggest cheer so far!
9:44 HJi: Jonathan is joined on stage by Jayne Lewis-Orr and Colin Sillery of Schwarzkopf and the awards are about to begin, starting with the regionals
9:45 HJi: First up is Scottish Hairdresser of the Year... And the winner is...Kay McIntyre.
9:51 HJi_Rachael: Ok time for Wales and South West - tough category!
9:52 HJi: Scott Smurtwaite and Will Eagles of Cream Hairdressing are the winner. Sounds like it's a popular choice.
9:54 HJi: Next up is Eastern.
9:56 HJi: Christopher Appleton is the new Eastern Hairdresser of the Year! "He's a bit too good looking," moans Jonathan Ross
9:59 HJi_Rachael: Time for North Eastern...
10:01 HJi: Alexander Turnball wins this one. Well done Alexander!
10:02 HJi: Alexander says: "It's been 10 years since I've been on this stage and it's good to be back."
10:03 HJi_Rachael: Time to announce Northern Ireland now...
10:06 HJi_Rachael: Congratulations to Keith Kane, Northern Irish hairdresser of the year! What a natty suit! He's dedicated the award to his 82 year old mum, who was a hairdresser in the 50s!
10:08 HJi: We're moving South, Sueng Ki Baek is the winner of this one. A whole end of the Great Room is going mad. Rush are definitely out in force! He might not make it to the stage as he is being mobbed by the Rush contingent!
10:13 HJi: There's more screaming from Team Rush as Seung thanks them for their support! He's visibly choked.
10:14 HJi_Rachael: Next up is Midlands hairdresser - we are romping through regionals!
10:16 HJi: Lewis Moore and Jacky Crosby are the new Midlands Hairdresser of the Year. Well done!
10:18 HJi: "This has been a real journey for us," says Lewis. He has special thanks for photographer John Rawson.
10:19 HJi: North Western Hairdresser of the Year next.
10:22 HJi_Rachael: Sharon Peake goes in the Hall of Fame with her third win for North Western!
10:22 HJi: Sharon's got a great lipstick kiss on her cheek from all those congratulatory kisses on the way up to the stage.
10:24 HJi: London hairdresser of the Year is next. The room has errupted just at the mention of it! Whose collection will pick up the prize?
10:26 HJi_Rachael: And London hairdresser goes to Skyler McDonald! Love Skyler's dress btw...
10:28 HJi: "Oh my god! How did that happen?" she gasps.
10:30 HJi: Olly Murs has taken to the stage. He's looking very cool!
10:33 HJi: Olly says "I've never been to such a posh hotel and they've given me a bed for the night." For some reason there seem to be lots of very excited ladies in the room all of a sudden!
10:35 HJi: This is my fourth British Hairdressing Awards and I have never seen so much of the crowd on its feet. He's singing 'having a good time' and the crowd are going wild for Olly!
10:46 HJi: We're moving onto the Specialist Awards - starting with Men's Hairdresser of the Year. And the winner is Jody Taylor.
10:52 HJi: Jody is using this as a platform to tell his girlfriend that he loves her so so much! He is also full of thanks to the Mascolo family for all the support they have given him. And it's the first F words of the speeches!
10:52 HJi_Rachael: Afro up next!
10:55 HJi: Afro Hairdresser of the Year is Kim Johnson and Michelle Sultan of Hype Coiffure. "I would like to thank everyone at Hype Coiffure. This is for all of us as reward for all those curly perms that we neutralised for all those years," says Kim, Michelle produces the first tears of the evening as she shares how much she is looking forward to taking the trophy home to show her son.
10:59 HJi: Avant Garde is next. Efi Davies scoops the prize.
11:02 HJi: "I didn't expect that," Efi tells the crowd. She thanks her family back in Greece and the TONI&GUY family in the UK.
11:03 HJi: It's Newcomer time... "I believe that children are the future," says Jonathan. He should consider song writing as a career choice.
11:04 HJi: The RUSH crowd are going wild already, if one of their three finalists win they are going to go mad!
11:06 HJi: And the winner is Dan Spiller. It's not the Rush crowd going wild but the screaming is definitely getting louder and this is a popular victory!
11:09 HJi: Dan says: "I can't believe I am a part of history in British Hairdressing, BRITISH HAIRDRESSING!!! I'm so happy." There are also thanks for his fiance and the Giametti family. "I'm milking it, I know I am, but it's the British Hairdressing Awards COME ON!" he finishes
11:10 HJi: And Artistic Team of the Year is the next category. HOB are giving Rush a run for their money in the volume stakes.
11:12 HJi: Johnathan says "The suspense is killing me." No need to wait any longer - the winner is Rush!
11:14 HJi: There are currently hoardes of people coming onto the stage. In fact, I've only ever seen the stage this packed when all the winners come up for their pictures at the end! There is going to be quite some party tonight!
11:16 HJi: "It has taken us six years to win this award. The last time was six year's ago, but we had a dream and we never gave up on it." screeches Stell. It is definitely the most impassioned speech of the evening.
11:17 HJi: It's the penultimate award the Schwarzkopf Colour Technician of the Year.
11:19 HJi_Rachael: Colour Technician is Christel from HOB!
11:22 HJi: "I didn't really expect this," says Christel. She dedicates her award to the directors at HOB and her team. There's another thank you to John Rawson. He's had a successful evening.
11:24 HJi: It's time for the British Hairdresser of the Year show.
11:24 HJi: First Errol presents two models. He's gone avant garde. One is a towering up-do. The other is a disconnected bob in black and neon orange.
11:27 HJi: Tim Hartley's show is next. It's Hollywood glamour with nods to Marylin Monroe. One is beautiful blonde the other copper with stunning barrel curls.
11:29 HJi: Mark Hayes produces the beautiful geometric shapes that Sassoon is famed for. There's a stunning graphic bob in the season's It colour red and a shorter head-hugging blonde creation.
11:30 HJi: Hooker & Young up next. There's a msucle-bound dancer generating squeals from the ladies. The model is Geisha girl-inspired. It's big, bold and beautiful with different textured sections layered together.
11:33 HJi: Akin is next and it's classic HOB. There are two short head hugging shapes. One with a beautifully rounded frine, the other is asymmetric and cut into a point over one eye. The colour work is stunning.
11:34 HJi: Angelo is next! His looks are Issy Miyake inspired. One has gold brocade woven into the hair in a conical shape, the other combines sleeked back length with heavily textured ends. One model has just re-styled the other model live on stage. Wow!
11:38 HJi: Phil Smith's model's gone for the cool wiggy vibe. He's used crimping to create plenty of texture. One is blonde and bob shaped with disconnected section, the other dark and more triangular.
11:39 HJi: All the models are on the stage together and all so different! One thing is clear - who ever wins the British Hairdresser of the Year wil be a very talented man!
11:40 HJi: The new British Hairdresser of the Year is Angelo Seminara! The fireworks are going off and everyone - literally EVERYONE! - is on their feet.
11:43 HJi: "It's heavy!" jokes Angelo. "I'm probably going to be really boring, but this is amazing, I am very surprised because I didn't think I would win again because what i like doing - and that is experimenting." He thanked Trevor Sorbie, his photographer, Andrew O'Toole, and most of all his wife for putting up with him! "I'm a bit shocked actually," he concludes!
11:46 HJi: The winners take to the stage for a group photo will the rest of the guests move back to the ballroom, where it is party time!
