The winners of HJ's British Hairdressing Awards 2012 were honoured at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Winners were announced in nine regional categories and six specialist categories, before the ultimate accolade of HJ's 2012 British Hairdresser of the Year was awarded to Angelo Seminara.
The evening - arguably the biggest night of the year for the industry - was hosted by HJ's publishing director, Jayne Lewis-Orr and comedian David Walliams, who brought the house down with his well-observed comments and near-the-knuckle gags.
Jayne welcomed the audience saying: "Tonight truly demonstrates why British hairdressing is respected the world over as we recognise the most gifted individuals - and teams. The judging process and independent auditing ensures complete transparency for the finalists and winners, making HJ's British Hairdressing Awards the most respected in the industry."
Before the awards were handed out, the industry paid its respects to the late, great Vidal Sassoon in a moving film celebrating the visionary's unsurpassed influence. Nominees and industry names shared their memories of the great man, revealing the impact he had on their careers.
Then it was the time for the regional awards, with hairdressers from across the country awarded for their talent and technical skill. The 2012 inductees to the Hall of Fame were also honoured, with Christel Lundqvist (Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year), HOB Salons (Artistic Team of the Year) and Terri Kay (Eastern Hairdresser of the Year) all awarded for three wins each in the same category.
As well as celebrating the most creative talent in the hairdressing industry, the evening also gave hairdressing's hottest names the opportunity to enjoy an exclusive set from grime artist Labrinth who got the 1,700 guests on their feet during a three-song set.
Then it was time for the specialist categories, including Newcomer of the Year which was presented by special guest, Gok Wan.
Before the eagerly-anticipated final award of the evening was announced, guests got the chance to enjoy a model presentation by the eight nominees for British Hairdresser of the Year.
Reminding the audience precisely why these names are the most-respected in the industry, the show saw each nominee present two models demonstrating their trademark style; monochrome 60s looks for Akin Konizi, sculpted updos for Angelo Seminara, gothic Geisha girls for Errol Douglas, avant-garde texture for Hooker & Young, three-dimensional colour for Jamie Stevens, classic Sassoon shapes for Mark Hayes, candy-floss coloured texture for Mark Leeson and beautiful blondes for Tim Hartley.
Then it was time for the highest accolade in British hairdressing to be awarded, with Schwarzkopf Professionals' Linton Husbands joining Jayne on stage to announce Angelo Seminara as the winner of HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year for a third time.
