HJI Hearts logo.bmpAlexandra-Burke-high-ponytail.jpgHigh ponytails are a perfect choice for the summer months, providing a flattering look for every face shape and showing off the neckline and shoulders. Here are our favourite celebrity takes on the trend for 2012.
This summer also provides plenty of opportunities for distinctive finishing touches - from a plaited base to dip-dyed contrasting colour. Whether worn shiny, smooth and polished to perfection or casually pulled back for a beach-ready look, this style is flattering, simple and also provides the perfect opportunity to encourage clients to experiment with extensions.

Alexandra Burke
"Alexandra looks great with this high pony-plait. It really accentuates her bone structure as well as opening up the rest of her face, which we don't often see as she usually wears her hair down in a centre parting. Her colour looks good too, particularly with the lighter tones infused through the ends."
Claire Atkinson, HOB Salons creative team, London

Elle Macpherson
"Elle never fails to pull off a red-carpet look and this is no exception. I think she has been given a helping hand with some temporary hair wefts or a clip-in ponytail but the look is perfect for her and on-trend for this season. I love the chunky plait that disguises the join, and she demonstrates perfectly how you don't have to be under 30 to wear a ponytail. Her colour is natural-looking and suits her skin tone, although she could try toning it a little to brighten it up for Spring."

"Jessie's polished ponytail looks great and her signature blunt-cut fringe adds a beautiful softness to the style. Sleek, high ponytails give a distinguished but slightly demure look that is on trend for Spring/Summer. It's modern and streamlined with added elegance. There are so many variations and modifications that can be done too, like twisting the locks around the hair tie to create a chic bun."
Nicola Smyth, Arabella, Leamington Spa

Poppy Delevigne
"I love Poppy's look - it's so fresh and effortless but chic and on-trend at the same time. Her darker roots work for her and the ponytail adds that done-in-minutes look which is great for the Spring months. She looks gorgeous!"
