With the likes of Louis Vuitton, Emanuel Ungaro and Thierry Mugler all sending models down the catwalks with sweeping ponies placed high on the crowd, this look appeals to celebrities as much as fashion fans.
Here are our favourite takes on the trend...
Lady Gaga
"Ponytails are not just for playing sports or bad hair days - here we see Lady Gaga at her most glamorous with a vibrant on-trend wig. The hair has been styled into a beautiful cascade of gently tousled curls, swept over to one side and the statement-heavy fringe frames her heart-shaped face perfectly. The high pony is perfect for daytime glamour as well as night-time chic and for a relatively easily achievable style, it's brilliantly dramatic."
Jacq Howes, Dickson Reid, Edinburgh
Kim Kardashian
"The high ponytail is a fashionable hair must-have this season, but keeping the style sleek, as Kim has here, is the key to pulling it off. By keeping a ponytail smooth and slicked back, this look allows you to really show off your facial features and look fabulous. Simple and effective, and perfect for Summer."
Sarah Olive, Tikadi, Theydon Bois

Rebecca Ferguson
"Rebecca's high-shine finish ponytail reflects her personality, which we saw on the X Factor; it's understated but powerful. A twisted knot of hair over the base of the ponytail adds a contrast in texture between the silky flow of waves draped over her left shoulder and the tightly swept-back hair at the front. The entire look is a collision of classic and contemporary, while at the same time extremely stylish."
Serafina Woodward, Clipso, Hemel Hempstead
Solange Knowles
"Solange confirms her status as one of this season's breakthrough fashionistas with these waist-length braids. Her interpretation of the high ponytail uses elements of Afro hair styling techniques, such as the braided-in hair extensions, to give the ponytail trend a contemporary twist and prove it's an option for all hair types. Solange has really made this look her own and is an example of someone who wears a look rather than letting a look wear her."
