The BaByliss Pro stand played host to a very special show today, as Adam Reed interviewed designer Henry Holland about how hair and fashion work together.
Adam, who is creative director at Percy &Reed and who has worked on the hair for House of Holland for the last five seasons, revealed just what goes in to creating a hair look for a catwalk show, with Henry confirming just how important the collaboration is.
We caught up with Adam and Henry after their chat to find out just how their relationship works - here's what they had to say. Scroll down for more highlights!
Henry, your quiff is something of a trademark - just how important is hair to you?
H: If my hair's not right, I just don't feel right. Even if I wash my hair before I go to bed, I have do it again in the morning to make sure my quiff is right.
Adam did my hair just before I came out on stage - we've both been travelling so much that it had got really long, but I didn't want anyone else to touch. It's hard when your hairdresser's schedule is as manic as yours!
How soon before a London Fashion Week show do you decide on the hair?
H: It's usually a couple of weeks. I need time once the collection has come together to really live it and work out who 'the girl' is. Once I have a good idea, I tell Adam who she is and her back story and he comes up with the idea of how that girl would do her hair.
I change my mind so much in the process of working on a collection that if it was any earlier than two weeks that we started working on the hair, I'd drive everyone mad.
Do you ever have any last-minute changes?
H: Sometimes we think we've made our mind up then realise it's not meant to be, but that's an important part of the collaborative process.
This season we'd been thinking about a braid, but decided that wasn't going work - I think Adam was as relieved as me when we changed our mind on that one!
Adam, how has Salon International been for you this year?
A: The atmosphere here has been incredible. The standard of work is really considered and so much more fashion-forward than previous years.
You cut Henry's hair just before he went on stage - is it intimidating cutting someone's hair when it's their trademark?
A: Yes! I also cut Noel Gallagher's hair and with both him and Henry I was slightly nervous the first time I worked with them as I was so aware that their hair was a key part of the their look. Actually the first time that I cut Henry's hair - and this is the first time I'm telling him this - I saw a picture of him posing with a weave on MySpace after the appointment and I was terrified that it was his way of saying that he was upset with his cut!
