Lisa Dopson from HOB Salons won Manager of the Year at
HJ's 2014 British Hairdressing Business Awards. The judges called her 'driven and dedicated' - but what did winning do for her and her salon? We find out.
Why did you enter the British Hairdressing Business Awards?
I was approached by the HOB directors following the amazing success we have had at the Camden salon. It was a great opportunity to show what myself and my amazing team have achieved in such a short space of time and as the awards are so acclaimed in the industry, it was an exciting new challenge.
What is the value of entering the British Hairdressing Business Awards?
The experience of having to put this entry together and explain what we've done in words was a great reminder of how we got to where we are. The interview really helped to build my confidence and the great feedback from the judges gave me some really good advice to take back to the salon and apply to my day to day work.
How did it feel to win Manager of the Year?
It was quite surreal, but I just felt so happy and incredibly proud. More than for myself, I really felt so thankful for my amazing team without whom achieving this title would never have been possible.
What has your win done for the business?
It was great recognition and a morale booster for the team .On a business level, it has been good for other managers in the company to see what can be achieved. Lastly, on a recruitment level, winning business awards is always fantastic and the local coverage and support we have received has been great to further promote the salon in the area.
The Judges said...
"A great story of a new manager building her skills and the business hand in hand."
"Fantastic attitude and she clearly gives 100% to everything."
"An entry from the heart
"A clear understanding of her role and how she can go above and beyond to ensure she fulfils it."
