Halloween hair horrors

To celebrate this spooky time of year, HJi takes a look back at some of the scariest celebrity hairstyles around - after all, even the A-list have bad hair days...

With millions in the bank, you'd think Mischa Barton and Britney Spears would be able to afford a world-class hairdresser; or at least a decent hairbrush. This gruesome twosome make the common mistake of going too long, and too fake. Hair extensions should enhance your natural look - and if you are using them to add length, it should be in a natural, undetectable fashion.

Growing up in the public eye must be tough, with critics condemning all those teenage style trials and outfit experiments. Even so, someone needs to sit Taylor Momsen and Miley Cyrus down and tell them that there's really no need to try so hard. Both girls have heaps of extensions in, with colours that really don't work too well. Shame really, as both stars look way better with the natural look - or is that just me getting old?!

Experimenting with colour is all well and good, but both Pixie Geldof and Kelly Osbourne appear to have got a little carried away with their barnets lately. Get these girls a deep conditioning treatment, ASAP! Pixie might be the current punk rock poster girl, but there's no excuse for those roots - or her green hair. We loved Kelly's colour experiments this summer, but her post-break-up blonde looks over-processed, brassy, and multi-tonal - and not in a good way.

The slicked back look is a constant catwalk favourite, but is it ever transferable in to real life? Even celebrities struggle to carry the trend off - but that doesn't stop them trying... Heidi Klum is one of the world's most beautiful women, but even that can't save her from this oil-slick disaster - and it looks as though some of that grease has trickled down on to her shiny face too! Pop starlet Ke$ha prides herself on her quirky look, but this style is more hair don't than do. Greasy roots, frazzled ends - that's a fashion no-no in anyone's book.

It pains me to criticise love-of-my-life Mark Ronson in any way, but after he broke my heart this year with this peroxide blonde, he deserves a little critique. The bright white shade might be a fashion-forward move, but it's certainly not sexy. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, is truly growing old disgracefully. The boy band look is not really befitting of a man pushing 50 - and that piecey fringe is inexcusable! Perhaps Mark and Tom should swap hair...?
