While us normal folk are suffering from a severe case of January blues, it's party time for Hollywood A-listers and their entourages with the awards season in full swing.
First there was the People's Choice Awards; then the Critics Choice Awards last week, then, on Sunday night the stars were, once again, pulling out all the stops, this time for the Golden Globes.
But while some stars know just how to nail perfect awards season glamour; other stars somehow manage to miss the mark - especially when it comes to red carpet hair.
We asked Robert Ari, a Fellow with Honours and former F.A.M.E team manager, to cast his eye over some of the celebrity hair on display. Here's his verdict...
| Kate Winslet "Her hair really works. It is' simple, elegant and beautifully thrown up to complement her strapless dress. Her side fringe softens her features and the fresh blonde colour makes her look much younger. This is a woman who knows what suits her and she could teach a thing or two to the others on how to look effortlessly stunning on the red carpet."
Verdict: hit. |
| Laura Dern "Her hair style is totally off balance. There is no shape or structure to her look. There is a lot going on: Farrah Fewcett flicks, structured curls and a loose strand of hair that looks as though it has fallen flat. Laura looks like she has tried too hard, she should take heed Kate Winslet: less is more."
Verdict: miss |
| Sally Hawkins "This hairstyle is more of a chic, timeless look than on trend. The classic up-do is simple yet elegant, drawing more attention to her sheer, black dress. I think overall the look works."
Verdict: hit |
| Jessica Lange "Jessica's hair looks as though it has been curled by barrel tongs with a lot of product, as her curls look hard and crispy. She has quite an angular face and I'd soften her features with a side swept fringe and loose, soft, de-structured curls."
Verdict: maybe |
| Renée Zellweger "I like the idea of this, it is something different and it us inventive but there is no balance. Good try! To enhance it I would the flatten the back, fix the curls with some soft definition using a curl enhancer and make the hair softer around the face while keeping the forehead exposed."
Verdict: maybe |
| Drew Barrymore "This is a hair horror! It is so off trend, it's 20 years out of date! Drew's hair looks as though it has been blow dried to every inch of its life and her dark roots should be banned from the red carpet. The hairdresser who created this monstrosity should be shot, or perhaps Drew attempted this hair style herself. To improve the look, I'd start again!"
Verdict: miss |
| Maggie Gyllenhaal "This look should be in theory be very wrong for a red carpet event as it's pulled back without much styling, making the look severe and masculine. However, in this picture Maggie looks great and the androgynous hair style suits her and her quirky one-shouldered leopard print dress. Her dangling earrings balance out the otherwise harsh look and her red lipstick adds a hint of glamour."
Verdict: hit |
| Megan Fox "With her high cheekbones, feline-like eyes and stunning figure, Megan doesn't need much to wow on the red carpet. Her classic up-do really brings her features to life and draws attention to her dress."
Verdict: hit |
