The 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Belfast last night and with Katy Perry sporting a pink vintage 'do and Lady Gaga rocking a layered ponytail, it's safe to say the hairstyles on display got everyone talking.
Clive Johnston at Clive Alexander County Fermanagh talks us through the hair hits and misses of the night.

Jessie J
Jessie J always looks more feminine with her hair curled and as always her synonymous deep brown locks work beautifully with her pale skin tone, jet black eye make-up and bright red lips so she's definitely got red-carpet glamour down to a T.
Only Jessie J can create a look that, in a style sense is so simple yet looks so glamorous. Her asymmetric bob adds personality to her overall style and with her straight cut fringe frames her face and draws attention directly to her red lips.

Jared Leto
Adding a twist to his usual look with spiked up and defined roots, Jared has clearly made an effort for the red carpet. His shorter front section shows off his facial features much more than his usual hair but when adding colour he should have gone for a deeper red rather than orange tones.
Justin Bieber
Justin's new haircut marks his coming of age and definitely makes him look older. He's used too much product in his fringe though - a good-quality, strong-hold wax finished with a layer of hairspray would keep his style in place without it looking too product-heavy - lay off the grease next time, Bieber.

Selena Gomez
Selena's multi-tonal colour is the only part about this look that works. The high-neckline teamed with the over-the-shoulder ponytail looks too busy and doesn't suit her delicate features. To work with this dress, she should try sweeping hair away from her face in a more glamorous and tidy updo.
Amy Lee
Amy's black hair on pale skin is a striking contrast and works well with Amy's long wavy locks. Her side-swept style is natural and un-done which is unusual but refreshing for red-carpet looks. It also suits her personality and works with her make-up choice.

Katy Perry
There are not many people who can get away with cyber pink hair but somehow Katy Perry can pull it off. The various shades of pink subtly blended throughout the hair add depth and warmth to what may otherwise have been a hair disaster. Teamed with her matching pink lipstick, Katy exudes glamour and personality.
Katy B
Katy B definitely suits her usual deeper red hair better than the copper tones she's sporting here. Rather than working with her skin tone, it washes her out and darker roots just don't work when it looks like you've just forgotten to touch them up. Her natural, bouncy curls suit her face shape - it's the first time we've ever seen her looking glamorous.

Adam Lambert
Adam's hair definitely suits his personal style and the deep blue tint on black hair works well with his suit. He's taken the popular short sides, longer top style to the extreme but his fringe is a little too Jedward-esque.
Bruno Mars
Bruno's has come to be known for his quiff which has been perfectly styled for the red carpet. He brings a unique twist to a modern style with a subtly curled top and a glossy finish with clippered sides blending neatly into the top.

Lady Gaga
Someone clearly told Lady Gaga that both ponytails and block layers were popular on the catwalk this season but as usual, one trend isn't enough for her and both must be taken to the extreme. Her unique style means rather than looking like a bad cut teamed with an over the top ponytail, it works for her and the platinum blonde means it isn't too in-your-face.
Irina Shayk
Ponytails made a storm on the catwalk this season and Irina has emulated the look perfectly. With the base of the ponytail at eye height and the remainder hanging with a natural curl, Irina epitomises a natural beauty focusing the glamour on her accessories.

JWoww
Jenni's attempt at looking demure has aged her; she looks like she just walked off the set of Dynasty and onto the red carpet. Sometimes less is more and perhaps Jenni could have gone for a simple ponytail to show of the embellishment on her straps.
Snooki
A hairstyle very much tailored to her own personality; dramatic volume and deep colours. She has mastered the big curls and over-the-shoulder hair but the red ends could be blended into the hair more subtly to neutralise the already vamped up style.

Jennifer Metcalfe
I honestly wouldn't change a thing about Jennifer's hair here. Her chesnut brown tones work brilliantly with her skin tone and contrasts with her red lips. She has kept her look simple yet elegant with enhanced natural waves, just enough volume at the roots and an ultra-glossy sheen that does
n't look weighed down.
Jade Thompson
Contrasting bright colours are hot at the moment and while Jade definitely suits her auburn hues, I would have loved to see her with a slightly deeper, more intense red which would enhance her natural beauty and skin tone.

Hayden Panetierre
Hayden's heart-shaped face and delicate features suit her pixie cut perfectly. Her blonde highlights enhance her curls and the look brings just enough glamour to the red carpet without looking too overworked.
Bar Rafaeli
Bar has gone for the ultra-chic look for the awards - with natural make up and a simple up-do. Bar has mastered the balance of a natural yet glamorous look with a slightly dishevelled fish-plait yet perfectly neat top section and hair falling over one shoulder. I love this fun and playful look which is perfect for the MTV awards.
