Last weekend’s HJ Live North was a great success as the stage welcomed seasoned stylists, barbers, protégées and industry legends. Here are the highlights from the HJ Live North shows at Manchester Central.
Kicking off the day, barber Joseph Lanzante demonstrated in his usual engaging way the new advances in micro pigmentation and how it can work for clients with hair loss. Following on from Lanzante, Kirby Blythe made her very first debut on a live stage with her stunning Modern Glamour collection. She transformed model’s hair from daytime to evening looks with flair.

Rick Roberts, currently a finalist for North Eastern Hairdresser of the year, was next on stage with his Monochromatic collection and, a HJ Live first, a British Sign Language Interpreter. Cream then showcased their Opulent Collection – a contemporary take on old-school glamour teamed with a dark side. Androgynous styling and strong standout colours reigned supreme.
Tint Leeds, a brand new hair salon in the heart of Leeds, started cutting and styling on stage with some rather unique inspiration- the recent storm. Matthew Sutcliffe demonstrated windswept hair and artfully dishevelled looks. Ben Brown followed presenting Technique over Trend – Ben took us step by step through two intricate styles. (A special mention goes to the chicest use of cable ties we’ve ever seen!) Next MFED showcased their slick barbering talents with Joey Power and Gemma Willock-Smith styling looks inspired by mods and rockers respectively.

We then welcomed Menspire Academy - they engaged the audience with their unique take on precision barbering and contemporary hairdressing. Wrapping up the first day we had Alison Scattergood, part of the MFED and a City and Guilds educator, who cut and styled a chic men's look on stage with finesse.
To kick off the second day The Hair Bank showcased elements of their stunning British Hairdressing Awards collection, Lucidity. It was the fist time mother and daughter Laura and Ria Kulik had presented together on stage- and long may their presenting partnership continue!

For the second time during HJ Live North we welcomed to the stage Joseph Lanzante with fellow barber Alistair Fitzharris who cut and styled a sleek men's look on stage. Then the Company of Master Barbers brought their unique barbering style (think mod-ish styles and groomed beards) to the stage with three live demos.
Next up Joseph Ferraro, a former member of the F.A.M.E team, showcased looks inspired by his country’s Aboriginal roots in a fashion-forward style. Following were the Hooker & Young protégé team- the debut of six talented hairdressers from Hooker & Young. The team showcased four key looks, each with intricate skill and texture around the theme of ‘Dark Tribe’.

Menspire popped back to the stage for the second day running and again wowed the audience with their insight into barbering and education. Then we were treated to the last ever stage show of the UK F.A.M.E team. Gavin McIntyre, James Earnshaw, Jordanna Cobella and Ria Kulik presented Youthquake a collection of edgy cuts and styles including braiding and acid tone colours.

Ross Charles, a finalist for the men’s Hairdressing Awards, took to the stage and wowed us by showing us how versatile razors can be in creating different textures and styles. He concluded what was an educational, inspirational two-day programme on the HJ Live North stage.
