Bill_Shaw_-_low_res.jpgYorkshire businessman, Bill Shaw, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in recognition of his 40-year contribution to the hairdressing industry.

Bill is chairman and founder of Dimensions, the largest independent hairdressing company in Yorkshire.

He opened his first salon in Barnsley in 1973, with six further branches swiftly opening across the county.

As his reputation grew, Bill expanded into training and opened a number of hair and beauty academies throughout Yorkshire.

Dimensions now runs 12 academies which have trained thousands of stylists over the years, and the salon group also works closely with schools.

Bill is the longest serving director of HABIA and has also been Worthy Master of the Guild of Hairdressers at national level on two occasions. He is currently the benefactor of the Guild, which is the oldest hairdressing organisation, with a history dating back to 1886.

Bill is also a member of the Hairdressing Council, the UK's statutory body for the State Registration of hairdressers. Bill is currently Treasurer at the Hairdressing Council, a role he has enjoyed since completing his term of office as Chairman

Bill said: "I am overjoyed at the news. It came as a tremendous surprise and to receive and honour in the Queen's Jubilee year makes it even more special."

"I am delighted to have been put forward but I also think it's great recognition for the whole team at Dimensions. We work incredibly hard to give young people the chance to realise their ambitions and we'd also like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to tall the employers and schools across the region and the local authorities in South and West Yorkshire who work with us. Without them, there simply wouldn't be Dimensions training."
