More than 100 applicants from across the country applied for the squad, with 28 selected to audition at the ghd Style Academy in Leeds.
Each of the finalists were then asked to recreate their favourite look from the London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012 collections, using their own moodboards for inspiration.

These looks were then presented to a judging panel, before a final 17 were selected to form the inaugural squad.
Following their first training session, the team will enjoy their first event representing ghd at the Malibutique event in July.
Jo Robertson, education manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland says: "We have been looking for young talent that we can nurture and help progress in the hairdressing industry."
"It would be fantastic to help launch the career of the next fashionista - a rising star of the future. The calibre of the stylists today was beyond expectations and made a really difficult judging process."
"I believe we have selected a fantastic team and can't wait to see the team progress over the next year."
