Hair O Right had its UK launch at Salon International, bringing what's possibly the world's greenest shampoo to the British market.
The professional haircare brand goes above and beyond sustainable and organic ingredients, taking the concept of eco-friendly to remarkable new heights and applying the concept to every detail, from design and manufacture to delivery and end product recycling.
Their award-winning factory is the first GMP-certified cosmetics plant in Asia, using 100% clean energy generated onsite from solar and wind power. Completed in 2012, the O Right Green HQ has won multiple awards for its design and regularly receives visitors from leading multinational brands seeking to improve their own environmental standing.
Staff at the office and factory even go so far as to cook and prepare lunch for each other every day using local natural ingredients and give up their weekends to participate in coastal clean-ups.
CEO Stephen Ko, who we interviewed at Salon International, was inspired to launch the brand in a bid to reduce the use of harmful chemicals in hair and beauty products. Suffering severe allergies himself and recouping from the untimely passing of his parents from kidney disease and cancer, he made it his mission to create a truly natural, pure and eco-friendly brand.
Today Hair O Right is the leading haircare brand in its home country of Taiwan and is distributed into more than 20 countries.
The hero product of the range is the O Right Tree in the Bottle shampoo - the world's first shampoo bottle that grows into a tree. Made of an eco-friendly plastic with seeds embedded in the base, the bottle will decompose once buried in the ground and sprout into an acacia tree - a design concept which has scooped the company three major awards already.
"The main aim of the brand is not how many products did we sell," says Stephen. "But how many people did we influence?"
