The Hair Council UK Student of the Year Awards sponsored by L’Oreal Profesionnel, VTCT and Denman brought even more excitement to the HJ stage at Salon International.
Following a photographic competition, judged by hairdressing icons Patrick Cameron, Andrew Barton and Jamie Stevens, eight Level 2 and eight Level 3 finalists contested the final. The practical took place at L’Oreal Studios in Hammersmith where the finalists had to recreate their original photographic look. The competition was judged by celebrity hairdressers Gary Hooker and Michael Young and Jayne Schauenburg, a previous winner herself and hairdressing educator.
Gary Hooker and Michael Young introduced each of the finalists onto the HJ stage and, for the first time in the competition’s 40-year history, there was a tie for first place.
Joint winners in the Level 2 competition were Tara Walls from Rainbow Rooms International and Marlena Luczak from Stoke on Trent College. Lauren Thompson from Reflections Training Academy took top honours in the Level 3 category.
The winners will receive a day shadowing both celebrity hairdressers Andrew Barton, lunch with HJ’s Newcomer of the Year 2013,
Sophia Hilton and afternoon tea at the House of Commons.
